You’re time on earth is short. Regardless of your beliefs about how you got here, your mission or purpose goes beyond taking up space and consuming oxygen. Perhaps you have identified your calling and are in the process of achieving or realizing it. You may be trying to figure out “why” you are here and “what” you are supposed to do. No matter where you are in your life journey, you can and are having an impact. Is it a positive one? Think for a moment on how you made a difference today. What comes to mind?
The hope is that you have positively impacted the loved ones around you. If you successfully served your clients- you made a difference. If you helped someone in need— especially if they could never repay you, there was an impact made. If you were polite or kind to a stranger, you brightened their day or even gave them hope. Too often in business, your service delivery can become a transaction turn and commission check collection. Your client wouldn’t choose you if they didn’t need what you were offering. Their want or need was satisfied which is excellent. However, why not make their experience with you more than they even expected. Serving your clients with sincerity and kindness is the easiest way to do this.
Think more intently about how you can make a difference in someone else’s life today, tomorrow and the next day. Keep in the forefront of your mind, the need of others around you. Try to answer or just think about the following questions:
- What on earth am I here for?
- What is my moral compass?
- Who are my role models and what have they taught me about living on purpose?
By doing so, you are in the right direction towards obtaining a clearer understanding of your life purpose. As you prepare for 2017, take yourself through the process of discovery to determine your Life Purpose Statement. Have you ever planned months in advance for a wedding or vacation? Have you ever taken 3-4 hours to plan the next five, ten or even twenty years of your life?
